JENNY E. HERRERA

Ms. Herrera is a Shareholder and provides accounting and tax services to a wide range of not-for-profit and government contract clients.  Her experience includes work with educational and trade associations, museums, charities, private and chartered schools, political action committees, pension plans, and activist organizations.  In addition, Ms. Herrera serves as tax resource for all exempt organization clients within the firm.

Ms. Herrera began her professional career with the "Big Eight" accounting firm of Price Waterhouse & Co. in South America. There she had responsibility for planning and performing audits for numerous clients.  Prior to joining R&M, she was a senior accountant with a local Washington, DC, accounting firm, where she provided accounting, auditing, tax, and management services for not-for-profit organizations, individuals, partnerships, and corporations.  Her specialized audit experience includes audits performed under Yellow Book Standards for residential rental real estate projects receiving HUD financing and/or rent subsidies and OMB Circular A-133 for not-for-profit organizations receiving Federal awards.

Her experience goes beyond tax and audit services.  She has assisted in the implementation of computerized accounting systems, design and implementation of new policies, and reconstruction of accounts.  She has also helped in the restructuring of clients’ accounting departments, software conversions, and has served as an interim Chief Financial Officer.

Ms. Herrera is a CPA and is actively involved in various professional and social organizations.  She is currently a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants; the Greater Washington Society of Certified Public Accountants, where she coordinated the Rebuilding Together effort and serves on the Not-for-Profit Organizations Committee, and the Virginia Society of Certified Public Accountants, where she serves in the Nonprofit Pro Bono Assistance Program.  In addition, she is the past chair of George Mason University’s Accounting Advisory Council.  She serves in a volunteer capacity as a board member of numerous local not-for-profit organizations.  Ms. Herrera received a Bachelor degree in Accounting in Bolivia and a Bachelor of Science degree from George Mason University.
